Seniors

Seniors, our elders, are often times ignored. Too old, too slow, too much trouble. Polite people would not say those things out loud, but you see those attitudes play out too often in our fast pace society.
Those of us who take the time to know the older folks in our lives have come to respect the history that our elders have lived through and how it affected their own personal lives. The older adults in our era, have lived through quite a bit of American history. Many served in World War II, The Korean War and most have lived through the Great Depression.
Our older adults have seen the telephone party line progress to cell phones, have witnessed the evolution of radio entertainment as the primary means of in-home entertainment to black and white television with three channels to color TV, remote controls and an unlimited number of channels via cable TV service. Our current elderly population are the very ones that gave birth to the 'baby-boomer' generation. They have worked hard, pursued the American dream, retired and now can barely afford health care. We have a generation of older adults that have experienced a great amount of history: social, environmental, technical, scientific, medical, government and so forth. Think of how many areas of our lives have changed since the early 1900's, when our current generation of older adults were children! Sadly, we forget to talk with and listen to our elders.
