Welcomes Senior-Lydia

Introduction

Hi! Lydia here. What a neat way to introduce seniors!

I live in Michigan but was actually born and raised in California in a little town just outside San Diego.

What's on My Mind

Hmmm. What's on my mind? I guess my late husband. He's always on my mind, but especially with Valentines Day approaching.

I will miss him this year, our first year apart. Stan died last spring. We were married for 58 years.

Stan forgot our anniversary, forgot my birthday, he even forgot his. Stan was even guilty of forgetting mothers' day, fathers' day and once, completely forgot our daughter's birthday. But Stan always got it right on Valentines Day.

Before he retired, he made it a habit to call off sick on the 14th of February. He would wake me, fully dressed in his favorite suit, with a breakfast tray. He'd snuggle up under the covers and watch me eat, all the while smiling at me.

The rest of the day, he pampered me. He drew a bubble bath, lit candles and sang love songs to me. (Stan could not hold a tune to save his life, but he was so precious I never pointed that out)

Once I was dressed appropriately to his suit, the stereo was turned on. He'd take my hand and we'd dance all through the house.

When the children were young, Stan always made overnite arrangements with my mother so we could be alone. Some years, this was the only day we were truly alone.

After a day of sweet talk, chocolate, dancing and being treated like a Queen, we'd retire to our room for private things.

Stan was a hopeless romantic, one day a year. Nothing stood in our way that one day. All wrong doings were forgiven on that one day. No matter what life was dishing out, I could always look to the future of one perfect day with me and Stan.

I may have to finish this later. Didn't realize until I began writing this how dear my memories are and how much I am going to miss my Valentine this year.
