Welcomes Lynn and Her Mother Opal
Introduction
Hi, my name is Lynn and I and doing this page for my 87 year old mom. Her name is Opal and she is truly a gem and all who meet her are blessed. She is from the midwest.
What's on My Mind
Right now what I am thinking about is my Mom who did everything for her kids. I am not kidding, she worked from sun up to sun down all for us kids. Anything within her powers, we didn't even have to ask - she did it.
She has been in the hospital for three days now. I talked to her this morning and she said she was ready 'to go somewhere else'.
Please keep her in your thoughts and also pray for family members and friends to reach deep in their hearts and find ways to reach out and touch her - even hen she is not having one of her better times.
What I would like to share about myself
My mom raised nine kids, all currently over the age of 50. There was a tenth son that died. Mom has 20 great grandchildren, and 27 grandchildren. Also, one great-great grandchild (my brother's stepson who he raised --then the stepson also raised a stepdaugher and the stepdaughter had a baby last year so last year there were four new babies in the family. Mom was very excited about that.
My mom was the best and the answer to all life's ups and downs was to get busy and do something about it (chop some wood, plant gardens, plant flowers, wash clothes in the old wringer-type washer and galvanized rinse tub and then hang them all out to dry then iron them all, cook and bake and clean and then do it all over again).
Mom always had something in the oven or on the stove for dinner and always had fresh bread or made-from scratch pies, cinnamon rolls, cookies or cakes on hand. Then when the youngest one reached school age, Mom went out to work full time and still was the primary caregiver for all of us.
Her love for all of us is a given and she showed it all the time. Now, during her elderly years, other traits are appearing but nothing can ever take away a mother's true love for her children - we were always the light of her life.
Our love for her will never cease and all of us have succeeded so well in life because of her example of strength and determination and her willpower to never ever give up, no matter what. Mom: I love you.
My Favorite Quote
My own favorite guotes are: "Let go and let God." Another favorite quote is from my sister: "During the heat of the moment, you don't really hate someone, you may dislike them, but you never hate them."
And the quotes I remember my Mom saying the most are: "Anything can be done with enough elbow grease" "If it is worth doing, it is worth doing right" "If you want a job done right - do it yourself."
I know with this last statement she meant that if someone is trying to do something for you/with you and has a good heart, good intentions, and good attitude, if you cannot/will not accept what they do and how they do it, then perhaps the best thing to do is do it yourself.
Words of Wisdom
Mom didn't actually say this, but if you know her (or knew her 10-15 years ago) you would know that she believed that actions speak louder then words. And all of her actions spoke vociferously of her love for her family, above all.
My Favorite Recipe
She always cooked pasties (beef, potatoes, carrots and onions in a pie crust) and it became a tradition that whenever a grown child returned home, pasty would be served. Her cinnamon rolls and molasses cookies were to die for.
