Ohio Buckeye Card More than two million Ohioans are eligible for the Golden Buckeye card, honored at 16,000 businesses statewide. Golden Buckeye cardholders have saved an estimated $2 billion since 1976. All Ohioans age 60 or better, as well as adults age 18-59 who have disabilities as defined by Social Security, are eligible for a free Golden Buckeye Card.
Ohio Department on Aging The Ohio Department on Aging serves more than 2 million older Ohioans. We help mature adults live active, healthy and independent lives through programs like our well-known Golden Buckeye Card. We promote positive attitudes toward aging and older people through outreach, volunteer programs and other efforts. We also provide home and community-based services that help frail individuals remain in their own homes and support consumers of long-term care.
The Area Agencies on Aging are offices established through the Older Americans Act that serve to facilitate and support the development of programs to address the needs of older adults in a defined geographic region (see map) and support investment in their talents and interests. These AAAs have functions in five basic areas: (1) advocacy; (2) planning; (3) program and resource development; (4) information brokerage; and (5) funds administration and quality assurance.
