Area Agencies on Aging Local offices for the aging provide assistance to seniors and caregivers. Offices are located in every county, the City of New York and the Seneca Nation and St. Regis Mohawk Indian Reservations.
County Departments of Social Services New York State is divided into fifty-eight local social services districts. The five boroughs of New York City comprise one district. Outside of New York City each district corresponds to one of the fifty-seven counties that make up the remainder of the state. NY Long-Term Care Ombudsman's Offices This program helps improve the quality of life of residents in nursing homes and personal care homes by acting as residents’ independent advocate. Ombudsman staff and volunteers informally investigate and resolve complaints on behalf of residents. They visit long-term care facilities to be accessible to residents and monitor conditions.
Adult Protective Services New York State's Protective Services for Adults program, provided through local county departments of social services, has been created by law to aid in the protection of impaired adults over the age of 18 who may be falling victim to abuse.
