County and State Services for Older Adults Local-Links

The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is designated in each of New Jersey's 21 counties to serve as the primary entity responsible for developing comprehensive, coordinated systems of community-based services for older adults.

Administration on Aging (AoA)AOA is part of the Department of Health & Human Services, administers and funds programs and services for older people. The web site has a wealth of information, including government policy updates, fact sheets, health information, resources.

The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior ServicesThis is a guide to programs and services offered to older persons by the State of New Jersey.

GovBenefits.gov helps citizens access government benefit eligibility information through a free, confidential, and easy-to-use online screening tool. After answering some basic questions, the user receives a customized report listing of local-links of the benefit programs for which the user, or person for whom he or she is entering information, may be eligible.

Benefits Checkup helps thousands of people every day to connect to private or government programs that help them pay for prescription drugs, health care, utilities, and other needs.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)Provides information on medications, health care and nutrition, as well as other information geared specifically toward older people.

Social Security, Veteran's Administration, Medicare, Medicaid Local-Links

Medicaid is a program that provides health care services to individuals that meet the requirements for income, resources and citizenship. Individuals may apply for Medicaid at any local DFCS office, by mail, telephone, fax, e-mail, or at designated agencies.

Long-Term Care Ombudsman's Offices This program helps improve the quality of life of residents in nursing homes and personal care homes by acting as residents’ independent advocate. Ombudsman staff and volunteers informally investigate and resolve complaints on behalf of residents. They visit long-term care facilities to be accessible to residents and monitor conditions.

Adult Protective Services If you or someone you know is 18 years of age or older, living in the community and is subject to abuse, neglect and/or exploitation, a county APS program may be the place to turn!

The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) provides free help to New Jersey Medicare beneficiaries who have problems with, or questions about their health insurance. SHIP is a statewide program sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services with major funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
