Pre-planning memorial services or acting on behalf of a loved one, is not something we look forward to. It certainly is not a subject that we like to talk about.
Yet, it is a fact of life and we can save those we love an enormous amount of anguish, stress, time and money by pre-planning this inevitable end of life event. Talking about our wishes ahead of time and writing our wishes down is quite important.
Many people believe that social security will pay for their burial and memorial services. There is a death benefit, but it is quite small, under three hundred dollars.
If you haven't made arrangements to pre-pay or have insurance that will make the necessary funds available at the time of your death, then the financial responsibility falls to those you leave behind.
At some point in our lives we need to make clear what our final wishes are.
Write it Down
Do we want to be buried or cremated? Do we want a traditional service or something different and unique. Should the casket be open or closed? What do we want to wear? Should we leave our glasses on? What kind of music, who should write the obituary, who should deliver the eulogy? Where do we want to be buried?
Those left behind will want to honor your wishes. You may believe that 'everyone knows what you want' but if it hasn't been written down you are leaving the final decisions up to those in charge.
The problem with that is, those left in charge may not agree with one another.
A good memorial planner will assist you through these delicate and personal decisions. He or she will also provide you with methods to pre-pay for all of your end of life expenses.
Save those you leave behind the stress of making these decisions while they are in the midst of mourning your loss.
