Dialogue

Not sure if this constitutes words of wisdom or not? Let's just call this a dialogue or the ramblings of an old woman.

My Dialogue on the question of voting records

I've been watching the presidential debates. Over and over again, I hear Kerry and Edwards being asked, "Why did you vote this way or that" "You voted this way or that"

I thought our elected officials were required to vote the wishes of the majority of the people that voted them in to office in the first place? So, a senator or house of representative member should be representing their people, right? Not their own personal agendas and interests, right?

So why can't someone make that clear?

Dialogue regarding the I in President Bush

Do you hear how many times he says "I". He doesn't care about working things out with people, he just pushes on to complete his own personal goals. "I" this, "I" that. Until someone questions a decision. Then of course it's "they" or "them". Watch this man, he's frightening. His ego is the size of Texas.

Dialogue about campaign dollars

My husband has the perfect solution to this mess. It would eliminate special interest groups from 'owning' our officicals and it would open up the campaigns (local, state and federal) to men and woman who are wise, business savvy, who represent the majority of us - the middle class. As it is now, a regular everyday person, with skills and fresh ideas, cannot run for office because they aren't wealthy. Or don't want to sell their soul (and us) to the highest bidders.

Here's his idea: You are only allowed to use a dollar amount in your campaign that equals what the job you are campaigning for pays.

Example: The president makes, I think, $500,000 a year. That's all a person can spend to run for president.

A senator makes, I think, $150,000 a year. Someone running for the senate should only be allowed to spend $150,000.

Now, doesn't that make sense? How nice would it be to have less commercials and yet have each commercial count for something worthwhile.

Dialogue about how we should consider a candidate

What is a candidate? He or she is applying for a job that you and I, the taxpayer, is going to hire and pay. We are going to go to work every day and earn enough money to pay taxes to pay this person to do a job for us.

How did you get your job? Well, probably, you had to fill out an application. You may have had to allow a background check. You probably had to submit a resume.

Then, someone in human resource, checked your credentials, checked your credit history, checked your references. Then they talked with all of your previous employers.

Then, the human resource person, picked from the multiple applicants the top ten or twenty for the department heads to interview.

How nice would it be for the taxpayer, the employer of the prospective candidate to receive, in the mail, 10 or 20 resumes to consider. This would eliminate the 'spin' on facts. What is - is.

Dialogue about the majority voting system

Many of my friends no longer vote, after what happened 4 years ago. Gore won the 'popular vote' which simply means, the majority of every taxpayer that went to the polls, wanted Gore. Think about that. Does 'every vote count?'

Dialogue over who wins

Do you think that maybe we would have a better group of politicians if they had to accept a first and second place.

For instance, we have Bush and Kerry running. One republican, one democrat. (By the way, if my other ideas were in place, then Ralph Nader would have equal footing) But let's just say, we had only these two.

One wins the presidential vote. What if, the one that wins, gets to be president. The one that comes in 2nd place, must be vice-president.

This would cause these boys to play nicer with one another and we, the taxpayer, wouldn't have to listen to their 'tattle-telling'. How nice would that be.

It's not that far fetched. We have parties to represent us fairly. Both parties have to share in the house and in the senate. Why not at the top?

Dialogue on gun control

We have to take a class and pass a test before we are allowed to obtain a drivers license. I think the same should hold true for gun owners.

Way back when I took drivers ed, part of the class was spent watching car wrecks and the bloody aftermath of drinking and driving.

Part of the gun training class should include movies of accidental shootings, children killing children, angry husbands shooting their wives. People that own guns must understand that if they pull that gun out, they must be prepared to shoot.

I also think that the guns and other weapons available to law enforcement should not be available to an average citizen. Why in God's name do you need a semi-automatic rifle? When would you need such a thing?

Dialogue regarding legal and moral issues

We've done this to ourselves folks. Every time we don't like something, we shout, 'make a law!' We continue to turn our rights over to the federal government, by choice, because we don't want to be responsible and 'somebody (anybody that thinks differently than we do) has to pay!

Abortions. Having an abortion is a moral issue. It may also be a health issue. It is not an issue that our government should be able to say yes or no to.

Gay marriages. A moral decision. Not a government decision. I can't believe how hot this is right now, especially with our current president. What about all the 'straight marriages' that over 50% of the time end in divorce? Who cares who you want to spend the rest of your life with, or at least intend to. What business is this of the government?

Stem cell research. Please, someone, tell me what in the world is the difference between 'harvesting' parts from an adult vs a baby? Yes, the thought of it makes my skin crawl, but it's done everyday. People are walking around with strange hearts, livers, eyes and so on.

Canadian Drugs. Now that's another sore spot. An american made drug, manufactured by an american drug company exports drugs to Canada. (I live in Cleveland Ohio, Canada is right across the lake from me) Now, Bush believes that somehow, this american made drug, manufactured in america, somehow got tainted traveling (in my case) less than a few hundred miles.

The only reason drugs are less expensive in Canada, is because thier government had the good sense to 'cap' the limits that a drug company can add. That's it. What's the mystery here?

Dialogue regarding news coverage of the war

Folks, we see what they want us to see. I guarantee you that if they added the audio, the screams of people getting blown apart, you would not want to see what was happening.

War, in any time, is horrible. When, will we as a human race, living and sharing the same planet, ever learn how to negotiate? How to compromise? Why do we continue to have the knee-jerk reaction to harm, mame or kill people that don't think like us?

Read your history books. Rome was a warring nation. It became a 'great' nation by killing all those that didn't adhere to their political views. They were a huge nation.

Then, one day, the people - (just like you and me) couldn't be taxed any more. They couldn't keep sending their children to death. They could no longer support the war efforts.

The United States must have a strong foundation (that's you and me) before we can continue to spread ourselves so thinly among the entire world. You cannot 'give' what you don't have.
