Specialized Care

Those families searching for the most appropriate services for their loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease or a form of Dementia face unique challenges.

There are families that are caring for their loved ones at home and need a break from time to time, otherwise known as respite. There are assisted living facilities that offer short-term stays that specialize in Alzheimer's and Dementia care. Other families will chose to hire in-home assistance through a home care service.

Adult day centers are now available as well to provide anywhere from a few hours a week of service to all day, all week care. An adult day service that has appropriate staff and training to care for someone with Alzheimer's is a nice 'in-between' solution. The senior remains at home, but spends the day in an adult day center.

There are many times when a permanent housing option may be the most appropriate solution for both the senior and the family. In such a case, careful attention must be made in your selection of a facility. The senior is obviously vulnerable and you must, as a family member, feel secure in your loved one's living arrangements.

Each family is different and has their own set of expectations of both themselves and the services contracted. Speaking with your community liaison will help you to reach the best solution possible for the family as a whole. Experiencing the effects of Alzheimer's Disease is felt by all those involved.
