The Area Agencies on Aging are offices established through the Older Americans Act that serve to facilitate and support the development of programs to address the needs of older adults in a defined geographic region (see map) and support investment in their talents and interests. These AAAs have functions in five basic areas: (1) advocacy; (2) planning; (3) program and resource development; (4) information brokerage; and (5) funds administration and quality assurance.

GovBenefits.gov helps citizens access government benefit eligibility information through a free, confidential, and easy-to-use online screening tool. After answering some basic questions, the user receives a customized report listing of local-links of the benefit programs for which the user, or person for whom he or she is entering information, may be eligible.

AL Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program answers questions and counsels Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans, long-term care insurance and other health insurance concerns.

Alabama Division of Veteran's Affairs Complete listing of local VA offices in your county. The function of the Division of Veterans Affairs is to assist veterans and their families in the presentation, processing, proof and establishment of claims, privileges, rights and benefits as they may be entitled to under Federal, State or local laws.
The Long Term Care Ombudsman program provides services to protect individuals residing within nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, specialty care facilities, and boarding homes. Ombudsmen are advocates for residents, or their friends or families, who work to protect the health, safety, welfare and rights of Alabama's senior citizens.
The Alabama Department of Senior Services offers a toll-free legal helpline. The Alabama Elder Law Helpline can assist seniors with common civil legal questions including wills, trusts and financial counseling. The Elder Law Helpline number is 1-866-456-3959. People age 60 and over can call the Alabama Elder Law Helpline Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
